QUESTION / ANSWER |

Why use compressed data ?
Compressed data are less expensive, for both the volume of the files and the time to send them are reduced. It particularly fits for using Inmarsat.
"zip, gzip et bzip2" are available with Windows. Maxsea can recognize a .bz2 file and restore it before reading.
Only you may decide whether you want compressed data or not. But you must have the software fit for restore the compressed data (at least Maxsea for .bz2 files).
Compressed GRIB files are usually by 20% smaller (zip/gzip) et 33% (bzip2), so "bzip2" is the more efficient.
